Michael P. Puorro
Chairman, President & CEO
Mr. Puorro has over 30 years banking experience and over 25 years as a senior banking executive in all facets of developing successful financial institutions. Since 2012, Mr. Puorro has served as the Chairman, President & Chief Executive Officer of Hanover Community Bank, and its holding company since its inception in 2016. Mr. Puorro coordinated an effort to reorganize and recapitalize Hanover through a revamped Board of Directors and new management team. In approximately five years, the Bank’s equity position increased by $57.0 million while producing a 117% stock price appreciation. Further, during this time, Hanover has grown its asset base by ten-fold and consistently displays a track record of record earnings and best in class asset quality. Today, Hanover is one of New York’s fastest growing community banks and is class leading in many financial metrics. Prior to Hanover, Mr. Puorro was the Co-Chairman and President of Madison National Bancorp, Inc. and Madison National Bank where he was a leading member of Madison’s entrepreneurial group and executive management team that raised $32.5 million in capital from a private placement. Prior to this, Mr. Puorro served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of New York Community Bancorp, Inc. where he was directly responsible for managing the financial functions of the fourth largest thrift in the United States with over $24 billion in assets and $5 billion in market capitalization. Before his tenure with New York Community Bank, Mr. Puorro served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Roslyn Bancorp, Inc. where he coordinated Company growth from less than $1 billion to over $12 billion in assets, and from five to forty full service retail locations. Mr. Puorro was a former senior member in the Financial Services Group of KPMG LLP, specializing in financial institutions ranging in size from local community banks to super money center institutions. Mr. Puorro has established a high level of confidence and credibility and possesses a pristine reputation with all regulatory authorities, as well as Wall Street financial analysts, members of the investment community, and charitable and civic groups. Mr. Puorro serves as a Board member of New York Banker’s Association which serves as the State’s preeminent provider of legislative and regulatory services to a unified banking industry. Mr. Puorro earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from Dowling College’s School of Professional Accountancy, and in addition to being a Certified Public Accountant, is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. In May 2012, Mr. Puorro received an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Human Letters from Dowling College.
Brian K. Finneran
E.V.P. & Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Finneran has over 35 years of experience in the banking industry with an extensive tenure as a Chief Financial Officer of Long Island-based, publicly-traded community banks. At Hanover, Mr. Finneran has responsibility for all facets of financial management including budgeting, strategic planning, treasury and asset/liability management, tax and investor relations. Mr. Finneran is also the Chief Financial Officer of the Bank’s holding company. In previous assignments, Mr. Finneran has also worked extensively with institutional investors in raising capital and disposing of problem assets. Prior to joining Hanover in 2017, Mr. Finneran was the former Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and member of the Board of Directors at Suffolk Bancorp (SCNB) from 2012-2017. Mr. Finneran was a member of the executive management team that remediated SCNB’s regulatory problems, helped restore it to profitability and increased its market capitalization from $100 million to $500 million over a five-year period. SCNB was sold to People’s United Bancorp in 2017. Prior to his tenure at SCNB, Mr. Finneran was the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at State Bancorp, Inc. from 1990 until its sale to Valley National Bancorp in 2012. Prior to his tenure at State Bancorp, Mr. Finneran held various accounting and finance positions at Nat West Bank USA and Irving Trust Company. Mr. Finneran is the past recipient of the SmartCEO Magazine Executive Management Award in the CFO category, and he is also a former Long Island Business News CFO of the Year award winner. Mr. Finneran is a Certified Risk Professional with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from Baruch College and an MBA in Finance from Pace University.
E.V.P. & Chief Credit Officer
Mr. Sapanski has over 32 years in the banking industry with considerable expertise in credit risk and credit administration. Since joining Hanover in 2012, Mr. Sapanski is directly responsible for all aspects of the Company’s credit functions, loan servicing, product development and oversees a consumer origination platform which currently originates in excess of $250.0 million per annum. Mr. Sapanski’s career includes work in loan servicing, loan administration, loss mitigation, credit risk management and loan reporting. He has experience in all lending disciplines - commercial, construction, multi-family, business and residential lending as well as project management. He was most recently associated with one of the largest independent commercial banks in the metropolitan area. Prior to that, he was Senior Vice President and Chief Credit Administration Officer managing the operations of the bank’s credit administration department for a local commercial community bank on Long Island. Mr. Sapanski earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York, Empire State College where he majored in Business Management and Economics and minored in Banking. Mr. Sapanski has completed numerous lending, management and finance courses with the National Institute of Credit Management, Federal National Mortgage Association and the National Council of Savings Institutions. In his position at Hanover, he is responsible for managing the Bank’s Credit Risk Management and Credit Administration and Loan Servicing Divisions as well as overseeing loan underwriting and loan operations.
E.V.P. & Chief Retail & Information Officer
Ms. Chardavoyne brings to Hanover extensive expertise in all facets of Information Technology, Operations, and Retail Banking. At Hanover, Ms. Chardavoyne is responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of IT, Retail Banking, and Operational initiatives that align with Hanover’s corporate objectives. Ms. Chardavoyne is also responsible for driving retail business development through the implementation of a sales culture throughout the branch network, as well as assisting in the identification, procurement and successful opening of future branch expansion. Prior to joining the Hanover team in May 2018, Ms. Chardavoyne served as Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Amalgamated Bank, and Chief Information Officer at Suffolk County National Bank (SCNB). Before SCNB, Ms. Chardavoyne served as a Senior Vice President and Director of Deployment for Citibank N.A., where she led a key deployment initiative that drove global modernization and technology expansion across 1000+ branches. Ms. Chardavoyne earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science/Mathematics from Hofstra University.
S.V.P. & Chief Lending Officer
Mr. Marrali possesses over 16 years of commercial lending experience. Since 2012, Mr. Marrali has served as Hanover Community Bank’s Chief Lending Officer, where he is primarily responsible for overseeing the Bank’s commercial real estate origination platform which, in his tenure to-date, has originated over $190 million. Prior to joining Hanover, Mr. Marrali served as Senior Vice President Market Manager of Commercial Real Estate at Sovereign Bank, where he was responsible for the production of the small commercial real estate loan program with annual production over $800 million. Prior to his employ at Sovereign Bank, Mr. Marrali was Vice President of Commercial Lending at a metropolitan-located commercial bank, where he was directly responsible for the origination and portfolio management of the Bank’s multi-family loan portfolio. Mr. Marrali was also a Senior Commercial Loan Officer for a super-regional bank specializing in multi-family and commercial loan originations. Mr. Marrali completed a certificate program from the New York University Credit Analysis & Risk Management Program and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Hofstra University.
James H. Carter
Mr. Carter joined Hanover Community Bank in October 2012 and has over 48 years of retail and commercial bank operations experience, specializing in diversified product and project management. Mr. Carter’s current responsibilities at Hanover include Banking Operations and Facilities Management. Mr. Carter was a key contributor to Hanover’s growth as deposits increased from $60 million to $407 million, the opening of two new branch offices, as well as the Bank’s new state-of-the-art, technologically-advanced Corporate Headquarters. In addition to his extensive track record in project management, Mr. Carter possesses significant experience in expense containment initiatives, policy/procedure development, regulatory compliance, vendor management, quality assurance and operational effectiveness management. Prior to joining Hanover, Mr. Carter was employed as a Senior Vice President of Administration and Operations at several banks overseeing all aspects of Retail Operations, Information Technology, Compliance and Facilities. Mr. Carter earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and an MBA in Financial Management from Iona College.
Lisa A. Diiorio
S.V.P. & Chief Accounting Officer
Ms. DiIorio has over 25 years of experience in the banking industry and oversees operations and administrative functions of the Finance Division including accounting, financial reporting, policy development and internal control. Ms. DiIorio serves as liaison for the Company’s external auditors and is also the Assistant Secretary of the Bank’s holding company since its inception in 2016. Prior to joining Hanover in 2016, Ms. DiIorio served as Vice President and Principal Accounting Officer at Bridgehampton National Bank. She has also served as Controller for a number of banking institutions including The First National Bank of Long Island, Madison National Bank and New York Community Bank. Ms. DiIorio was a senior accountant in the Financial Services Group of the public accounting firm of KPMG LLP where she specialized in audits of public financial institutions, brokers and dealers of securities, credit unions and various commercial entities. Ms. DiIorio earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from the Frank G. Zarb School of Business at Hofstra University and an MBA in Finance from Dowling College. Ms. DiIorio is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Alice T. Rouse
S.V.P. & Chief Risk Officer
Ms. Rouse has over 25 years of banking experience and oversees all enterprise risk management functions including the operation and administration of Hanover’s Corporate Compliance area and activities relating to the Community Reinvestment Act. Ms. Rouse also serves as the liaison for the Bank’s outsourced internal audit function, administers the vendor management process and ensures that the Bank’s internal operating policies are designed to minimize risk and comply with regulatory requirements. Prior to joining Hanover in March 2017, Ms. Rouse served in many financial and audit capacities at Astoria Bank for 24 years, including the Director of Financial Reporting and Internal Audit Liaison. Ms. Rouse was an integral part of Astoria Bank’s Initial Public Offering and three acquisitions which allowed Astoria to grow from $4.0 billion in assets to the fourth largest thrift in the United States with over $15 billion in assets. Prior to joining Astoria Bank in 1993, Ms. Rouse was an Audit Manager in the Financial Services Group of the public accounting firm of KPMG LLP, specializing in financial institutions. Ms. Rouse serves on the Board of Trustees (as well as a member of the Executive and Audit Committees) of Variety Child Learning Center (VCLC), a preschool for children with developmental disabilities. In April 2016, Ms. Rouse received the Arnold Greenberg award from VCLC for her dedication and service to the school. Ms. Rouse earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and is a Certified Public Accountant in New York State.
